Getting Ready for Christmas & Recommended Books

Getting Ready for Christmas &

Recommended Books!

Well, we can’t hide from it, Christmas is fast approaching! And as the weeks go by your start to notice my blog changing to accommodate the next holiday season!

To kick off the season of goodwill, I have popped together a list of books which in my own opinion, would make fantastic presents for Christmas 2022!  I think books make absolutely brilliant presents, I try and buy books for as many people as I can, young or old! Here on this list I am sure you will find a book suitable for everyone!  I even have some of these books put away for the loved ones in my life.

For Nature Lovers:-

The Draw of the Sea by Wyl Menmuir

I was very lucky to get to meet Wyl, when his book was published this year. This book explores the way the sea draws us in, and those that are involved with it.  Wyl focuses on the fisherman of Cornwall, beachcombers, surfers etc.  If you have someone on your list that adores Cornwall, and loves to sit and listen to the waves, this is definitely the book to give them.

BBC Nature books- The Green Planet, The Frozen planet, The Frozen Planet 2 etc.

If your loved one enjoys sitting and watching the wonderful BBC programmes narrated by David Attenborough, these books should be a complete must.  The photos in these are completely stunning!  A lot of these books are much older now, and can be picked up cheaply via ebay, or other second hand book sites online, and the new Frozen Planet 2 book can currently be picked up on offer!

The Golden Mole by Katherine Rundell

This again is another new book, which was only published on the 20th Oct.  The reviews for this book are glowing. The author has chosen various animals, which surprisingly could be extinct in the future and has included great facts, and folklore about them.  This book is presented so well, and the illustrations inside are just superb!

The Lost Spells by Robery Macfarlane

I read this poetry book a few months back, and I was blown away.  It’s a book I intend to read every year, it is breathtaking, and I think it is a book everyone should have on a shelf, in their home.  The illustrations throughout are beautiful, and I loved the poetry so much.  This would make a superb gift for any nature lover for sure.

For the younger persons in your life

Ghosted by Emily Barr

Again, I was super happy to meet Emily Barr this year, and purchase her latest novel Ghosted.  It’s such a great read, about a ghost who becomes friends with someone in the ‘real’ world.  It takes place in a great setting, and the characters are easy to get attached to.  This is a Young Adult book, but I think adults would definitely enjoy this too.

Heartstopper Yearbook by Alice Oseman

If you haven’t heard of Heartstopper, I think you must have been living under a log!  Charlie and Nick return, with all their friends, in this amazing full colour yearbook to accompany all the other books, which  have been published, and the Netflix show, which came out this year, with great success. A great book for any Heartstopper fans.

Christmas in Cornwall by Craig Green

I couldn’t not mention this gorgeous book on my list, this is a beautiful book, with lovely pictures, aimed at children, and not only that it is set in the wonderful Cornwall. This really is a stunning book, to share with the young children in your life.

Leila & the Blue Fox by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

I was lucky to be sent an ARC edition of this book, and my review can be found on my blog.  This book had me tears, and I found the exploration absolutely fascinating. The illustrations throughout are very cute, along with the tracing paper style pages which are also enclosed. A signed edition, with a gorgeous sprayed edge can be picked up from Waterstones.

For all the other people!

The Travelling Cat Chronicles

This is another book that touched my heart when I read it, and had me in tears by the end! This book follows a man who is trying to find a new home for his cat, and all the people he meets along the way.

Before the coffee gets cold and other books in the series by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

Before the Coffee gets Cold,  is based in a little cafe, where if you sit in the right seat, and drink coffee you can travel back in time. Again, this is another favourite of mine, and another that had me in crying.  There are also another two titles within the series, Tales from the cafe, and Before your memory fades.

Puffin Clothbound books

These books have been published by Penguin Random House Children’s UK.  Although they have been published by a children’s company, these books are definitely suitable for adults as well.  The covers are just beautiful, and I have started collecting a set myself.  Titles include Dracula, The Secret Garden, Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, Balck Beauty, Charlotte’s Web, Christmas Carol etc.  A wonderful gift for those wishing to dig into the world of classics.

I so hope this list will help those of you struggling to decide on what to buy the loved ones in your life, this Christmas.

Until I blog again…..keep on reading!
